Monday- Went over the new forum posts.  
We started presentations today

Spanish claim a new empire

Topics to research and include in your presentation:
—1. Period of time -1492 -mid 1500's at St. Augustine.  
—2. Basic explanation of what happened- Later caused a war for the Spanish going to Cuba because they did't have the same beliefs.
—3. Key people involved and major events.
—4. Impact on the US both positively and negatively
North America Cultures
1400's
they had a lot of different things they traded like feathers and copper.   
Different religion and groups.
The Louisianan Purchase
1803 The U.S purchased an area of land from Wyoming to Iowa and from Montana to Louisiana.  Purchased for 11,250,00. Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and Robert Livingston.  It lead to the expansion of the land.  Bought from France.  Lewis and Clark explored the land.

it was the first settlement to successfully raise tobacco 
Ancient cultures in America
No one know when the Aztec first came but have been as long as 22,000 years ago
many groups that settle in North America but other continued into south America

The first American's 
Pangaea- a large mass of land and the Native american's got split when Pangaea broke apart.  Cherokee was during 1808 and had a government call ed the Cherokee National Council.  Several native america groups including the Hohokam and the Anasazi were some of the first ones to introduce crops. Were the ones to have the first weapons.  
The discovery of Greatness
1942 when Christoper Columbus sailed across the ocean.  He discovered America for Europe.  Native American Slave trade, the first genocide of the Native Americans.  
Birth of a Nation
July 4th the Colonies wrote the Deceleration of Independence.  April 19th 1775 Battle of Lexington and considered the date the Revolutionary are War stated.  Sept.  3. 1783 Treaty of Paris is signed ending the war between the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain. 1775-1783.  John Adams, George Washington.  It gave us our Freedom, Independence. Constitution  May 25th 1785 ish and ended September 17th 1787.  It gave the people of the colonies free.  Gave us our government.  Dill of rists con
Birth of Industry
The Industry revolution gave us steam power and textile mills.  Because we had many resources it made the U.S. the riches countries in the world.    
House divided - Civil War 
December 20th 7 states secedes from the union and declaring themselves the Confederate States of America.  the north wanted the war to end and have the Southern states back into the States.  Abraham Lincoln made slavery illegal and made the Country whole again.  April 12th 1861 and ended April 9th 1865.  Ulysses S. Grant was the General Union and Robert E. Lee was the Confederate General.  Abe Lincoln didn't say he was going to abolish slavery every, just in the new territory.  The south thought that he was going to get rid of all of it.   The Union wanted the South back not to end slavery.  That was the beginning of the Civil war.

Boston Tea Party
Boston Tea Party.  Lead by Samuel Adams on December 16th 1773.  They dump tea in the Boston Harbor because they didn't want taxes,but it lead Europe to tax things even higher
War of 1812
June 1st 1812 -December 24th 1814.  Madison was the President.  It was a war against Britain, because of them interfering with trade at sea and violating the flag.  Canada burns the White house U.S. invades Canada.  Boosted Manufacturing capabilities, shortage of cotton, Blockade of Trade from Britain.  
Colonial Resistance and Rebellion
1760-1780 Colonists and Britain.  Needed to pay war debts, taxes placed on colonists, stopped buying British Foods, Boston tea party, Revolutionary War 1776.  It got us free from Britain.  
The birth of the Government
Colonies weren't united, each colony(state) had own power, articles of confederation to constitution, developed three different branches, Executive-Judiciary, and the Opposite of Britain's Parliament.  The Foundation of our Government.  
Manifest Destiny
The belief and practice that the United States could reach from Coast to Coast.  Andrew Jackson (president).  Stephen F. Austin, and the Donner Party.  It was between 1807-1912.  Gave our country the size it has today.  the Native Americas and Mexicans lost their land.
Wednesday- Went over presentations 

Pilgrims come to America
Separatists looking to escape Europe to have religious Freedom. The first attempt was unsuccessful reaching America.  Started the development of the U.S. Negative native Americans lost their land.
The trail of Tears
1830 White settlers who wanted to grow cotton can only go through Indian territory. It cause the Native American's in loss of life.   
emaciation Proclamations
Freed many slaves and made Slavery illegal.

Thursday- went over Mr. Brun's top 10 events that shaped the U.S. 
Christopher Columbus- 1492, Italian for the Spanish, sailed to the Caribbean Islands 
Magellan - sailed for Spain.  First person to prove the world was round because his crew sailed all the way around the world.  
Cortez  - Killed of the Aztec Indian's and took over.  Sailed for Spain.  
Pinzon- Sailed for Spain.  
Ponce de Leon- He sailed for Spain he explored Florida looking for the fountain of youth
Henry Cabot- sailed to the east coast and started the 13th colonies. 
Spanish Territory- Most of South America, Mexico, Caribbean, south west America and Florida
Portuguese territory- South America (Brazil)
French of Territory- Most of America and some of Canada
British Territory- the west coast and Northern Canada
No taxation without representation-
 
The deceleration of independence say all the things the colonist thought what King George did wrong.

The deceleration of independence sets up our government and our right.  The executive, judicial, and legislative are the branches of the government.

Major additions to the U.S..  What was the boarder line after the revolutionary war.  Mississippi River

Texas 
Texas was part of Mexico and open it up to the Americans, and the Americans lived and they didn't live by the rules, and no slaves. Then lead to the revolt.  (1830)  The battle of the Alamo many Mexican men died.  After the war Texas was its own country for about a decade.  America annexed Texas, and we didn't get along.  Then the American - Texas war happened in 1840.   
The Mexican- American war
The war was about where the boarder is.  James K. Polk was the president.  He decided to send troops to the Rio Grande river.  Mexico felt invaded and they attacked us.  The President  said they attacked us and we didn't attack them.  We got the Mexican cession after the war for 20 million dollars.  (CA. AZ. UT. CO. NV. made the Mexican cession)
The 13th amendment - abolished slavery 
Union had more people.  Union had more food.  Union had the only navy.  Union had better transportation.  South had a better reason to fight.   
Jefferson Davis -was the president of the South.  
Reconstruction 1865- 1877
The period of time after the Civil war in which the south had to be rebuilt and reorganized and brought back into the Union.  President Lincoln and Johnson wanted to be easy on the South.  That changed in the 1866 Congressional election.  Andrew Johnson was one of the few presidents that was impeached.
