Joseph Stalin

       Lenin suffered a stroke in 1922 and died 2 years later, by the time lenin died he did not like stalin, after lenin died there was a power struggle to see who would take over, stalin won and was in power by the late 1920's

USSR prior to WWII

      Russia dropped out of WWI to fight the bolshevik revolution, russia became communist and changed to the USSR in 1922, Purges and deportations to slave labor camps in Siberia(gulags), Strengthened the intelligence and secret service, created a cult of personality, nationalization and collectivization of the soviet economy(people own business' and farms, then the government taking them over), industrialization of the soviet economy(forced industrialization on USSR), five year plans(five year goals on economy), policies led to famine in Ukraine(5-10 million died considered a genocide by some), Banned religion 

USSR in WWII

     Signed German-Soviet Non aggression pact in 1939 leading to the invasion of Poland, Also invaded Estonia, latvia, Lithuania, and finland in 1939, signed neutrality pact with Japan in 1941, Invaded by Germany in June 1941, Stalin Instituted his retreat and "scorched earth" policies, The russian winter of 1941-42 changed the tide of the war

Operation Barbarossa- Hitler thought they needed to take moscow, stalingrad, and leningrad. Got close to moscow, but never reached it. Stalingrad was 90 percent taken over then USSR held out.

may 11 1945 VE day- Russia takes over Berlin germany, Hitler kills himself

Great Britain-

     neville chamberlin- born in birmingham, england, prime minister from 1937-40, policy of appersement with Germany, Part of Churchills cabinet after being prime minister, died of cancer a couple of weeks after, First political job in the birmingham city council, served on prime minister Stanley Baldwin's cabinet in the mid 1920's, Was a chairman for the conservative party until he became prime Minister in 1937, prime minister until may 1940, resigned after the norwegian campaign, was seen as an uninspiting war leader, was blamed for the loss of norwat to the Gwermans, didn't see the government getting any better.....
