Week November 28- December 2

Teddy Roosevelt- Mount Rushmore 

 Went hunting in Mississippi with some friends and he couldn't find any bear and then some people found a little black bear and he sees it tied to a tree and he said he isn't going out on a hunt and refused to kill him so they named the teddy bear after him.

Square deal- He called his platform a square deal. He wanted to give everyone a fare chance middle and lower class that made america Great Again.

Taft's Accomplishments

Passed the Payne- aldrich Tariff which reduced tariffs.  High tariff is forcing people to buy american goods because other products are going to be taxed so high so no one would want that. 

Trust busting president- Taft broke up more than Roosevelt did though. 

16th amendment passed- Started the United States Income Taxes

Woodrow Wilson's New Freedom-He was someone who was going to brake up monopoly's. ( Passed Clayton's Anti- trust Act)

Labor Unions were given the right to exists. 

Strikers, boycotts, picketing, etc. Became legal

Federal Trade Commission was established in 1914- Watch and make sure that the company's are following the rules. These are the people that will go out and brake up monopoly. 

Investigated companies for monopolistic practices. 

Federal Reserve System

  • America needed stronger banks
  • Federal Reserve Act of 1913- Designed to strengthen our banking system.
  • Divided the nation into 12 districts.... regional central bank in each district
  • Bankers Bank- designed to keep banks strong
  • Federal Reserve banks could issue new paper money in emergency situation
  • Also, helped with giving out loan $
  • Banks within the system helped others from closing die to the lack of money.

17th and 18th and 19th Amendments were passed during his terms

  • Directed election of senators
  • Prohibition
  • Women's Votes- 50% more people could vote. 

Taft- He broke up a lot of trusts, lowered terrifs and the income tax amendment  

Keating Owen Act- First Federal act fighting child labor

Adamson Act- Set up an 8 hour work day

African Americans were for the most part ignored by Roosevelt, taft, Wilson, and the Progressive Movement.

Wilson reinstated segregation in Washington DC and also started segregation in the US military. 

Tuesday (11-29-16)- Took test

Wednesday (11-30-16)- Took test

Thursday (12 -- 16)- Went over semester test WWI project.

Friday (12-2-16)- Worked on projects Mr.Bruns was gone.
