1920’s Topics:

1.-Prohibition and gangsters-

2.-Women’s rights and freedoms-

3.-Politics-elections, Normalcy and isolationism, President’s backgrounds and accomplishments, scandals, Republican philosophy-

4.-Entertainment, sports, music, radio, movies and fads-

Automobiles- Henry Ford, Chevy, and many others- Expensive

Dances- 1920- They danced to jazz music- They went down to the knees. 

Music- They payed $3.50 to get into a musical- Dancers where called flappers- upbeat jazz music. 

5.-Economy-Booming economy and stock market, buying on credit, high tariffs-

6.-Red Scare-anti-immigration, Sacco and Vanzetti case-

7.-Harlem Renaissance-KKK-

Renaissance- Birth of Revival- Harlem, New York. The Great Migration was when the African Americans residents got up and moved. Leaving the South- Hate groups KKK Booming North Lots of Jobs available in the North. Moving to Harlem- Musicians, poets, Actors, and Artists moved, used their abilities in the arts to express themselves and the black race. These people shaped the future. 

Famous Singer- Bessie Smith- Started at a young age, Signed contract with Columbia Records, downhearted blues, 800,000 copies, one of highest paid singer of her time.

Famous Poet- Langston Hughes- Sent into magazines, most declined. Worked as a busboy at a D.C Hotel, Met Vachel Lindsay, Promoted him. 

Jazz- Cotton Club- Singers bessie Smith, Billie Holiday. Musicians- Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong. Huge Crowds- No two performances were the same, whites and blacks, broke music boundary, helped whites adopt black music and culture. 

KKK- A very racist organization that caused violence and completed acts of terror to show white supremacy. Didn't just target blacks. 23-8 million Klansmen. Moved throughout the naiton- control local and state politics. Lawyers, doctors, ministers

8.-Lots of strikes-Boston Police, US Steel, United Mine Workers-

9.-The Model T and the impact of the automobile-

10.-Electricity in the homes and new applicances-

11.-Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhardt and the airplane-

12.-Scopes-Monkey Trial-

13.-Stock Market Crash-causes-

Talked about politics. 

Friday (1-20)

Talked a little about politics- other groups started presenting again.

KKK- Burnt any places that were involved with the blacks. - Burnt churches, raped, murdered, castrated, rarley caught most law officers were kkk.

Sports- Nfl- official guild-lines and organization, 22 teams in 1926, 10 by 192 for any team that couldn't afford it. Jim thorpe biggest. \

Mlb- Babe Ruth, all have the same teem names as today., Negro leagues started, Black Soc trial 1921

NHl- Started getting American teams

NBA- 40-50 teams wasn't popular, anyone could play.

Radio- First Broadcast was in 1920 1923-1930 60% families purchased radio, 600 radio stations, cost $50 for tabletop, $120 and up for cabinet
