Week Feb. 15- 19

Monday- Test day. 

Tuesday- Started WWII

Wednesday-  Finished Intro to WWII, talked about project about the countries.  

Thursday- Watched film about WWII

Friday- No School

WWII

What were the two alliances during WWII and what countries belongs to each?
-Axis and Allied.  Axis- Germany, Italy and Japan.  Allied - U.S., Great Britain, France, Soviet Union, China 

What was the Treaty of Versailles? 
-Ended WWI and too punished Germany but started WWII

Treaty of Versailles
- Territorial
Germany lost a lot of land and given to other countries.  Then 20 years later, Hitler took over all the land that was taken away from him.  
-Military
couldn't have tanks, air force, reduced men, no navy.  Hitler very slowly and little steps at a time built up their army.  
- Financial
Germany have to pay 33 billion dollars.  Then the German economy suffered. Money was worthless. Lead to inflation and they were in a depression
-General
1.) Germany had to admit full responsibility for starting the war. This was Clause 231-the infamous "War Guilt Clause"
2.) A league of Nations was set up too keep world peace.

What is the League of Nations?
-World wide peace keeping organization.  
Weaknesses?
-We didn't join and we were the biggest/strongest country in the world.  
-League of Nations didn't have a military force

4 Power Pact
- Treaty signed by the United States, Great Britain, France and Japan at the Washing ton Naval Conference in 1921
- Countries agreed to respect each others possessions in the Pacific and not seek further territory.  

5 Power Pact
-Signed by Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France, and Italy.
- Designed to prevent an arm's race.
-It limited the construction of battleships, battle cruisers and aircraft carriers.  
-did not restrict cruisers, destroyers or submarines. 

9 Power Pact
-Guaranteed Chinese independence and upheld the Open Door Policy. 
- Signed by the United States, Japan, China, France, Great Britain, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and Portugal. 

Kellogg- Briand Pact
- Countries that signed agreed to not go to war to settle disputes.  
- Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Great Britain, India , the Irish Free State, Italy, Japan
-65 countries eventually signed it. 
 
London Naval Conference- 1931
- Concerned with the agreements reached in Washington Naval Conference.  the UK, the USA, France, Italy and Japan attended.  
-Set up to make 5 Power Pact stronger
