World War 2

  • What are the 2 alliances during WW11 and what countries belonged to each
    • Axis and Allied
    • Axis
      • Germany

      • Soviet Union 
    • Treaty of Versailles 
      • Territorial 
        The following land was taken away from Germany 
        • Germany lost a lot of land to France, Belgium, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Poland
      • Military
        • Germany's army was reduced to 100,000 men, the army was not allowed tanks
        • Germany was not allowed an air force
      • Financial 
        • Germany had to pay 33 billion dollars to Great Britain and France
        • Germany was also forbidden to unite with Austria to form one superstate 
      • General
        • Germany had to admit full responsibility for starting the war. This was clause 231- the infamous "War Guilt Clause"
        • A league of Nations was set up to keep world peace 
  • League of Nations
    • An International organization established after World War one
    • Had no military force 
  • 4 Power Pact
    • Treaty signed by the United States, Great Britain, France and Japan at the Washington Naval Conference in 1921
    • Countries agreed to respect each others possessions in the Pacific and not seek further territory 
  • 5 Power Pact
    • Signed by Great Britain, France, Japan, France, Italy and the United States
    • Designed to prevent an arms race
    • It limited the construction of battleships, battle cruisers, and aircraft carriers
    • Did not restrict cruisers 
  • 9 Power pact
    • Signed by Great Britain, France, Japan, Italy, United States, China, Belgium, Netherlands and Portugal 
    • Guaranteed Chinese independence and upheld the open door policy 
  • Kellogg-Briang Pact
    • Countries that signed agreed to not go to war to settle disputes
    • 65 countries eventually signed
    • Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, The Irish Free state, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and the Unites States originally signed 
  • London Naval Conference-1931
    • Designed to try and close the loop holes
