Many events led up to this. The United States had forces in the Middle East and Osama Bin Laden did not like that. 9/11 happened because the infidels invading their holy land. US is allies with Israel and they hated it. Supporting the Jewish aggression against Muslims in Leanon.

-Bush Doctrine: US had the right to secure itself against countries that harbor or give aid to terrorist groups, United States should depose foreign governments that represented a potential threat to the security of the United States, and Encourage democracy around the world especially in the middle east as a strategy for combating terrorism.
Osama Bin Laden Background
He was born March 12, 1957. He was 7 out of 50 children.
Thursday: Department of homeland security was set up, new cabinet position in Executive Branch. Patriot Act was passed. NSA(National Security Agency) spying, Waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay, and Bush Doctrine. Water-boarding is where you lay down and there is a towel over your face, and people put water on your face, and it makes you feel like you are drowning, and you can't breath.
Al Quada means "The Base." It is a stateless (meaning without a country) terrorist organization. In 1988, an Afghan mujaheddin means you are from Afghanistan. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of the group, and the leader is now Ayman al-Zawhiri. They invaded Afganistan in 1979. The Soviet Union started were trying to get other countries out of the middle east. Al Quada started in 1988 because they were trying to get rid of the Soviet Union.
Friday: Middle East supplies a lot of oil. Israel is Jewish. Everyone around them is Muslim, so they don't get along. Israel became a country in 1947 and was at first known as Palestine. Want to create an individual Palestinian country next to Israel. We support Israel and have nuclear weapons. Afghanistan has been at war since 1979. After Soviet Union declared war on them, we helped support them and gave them weapons. 1995 civil war ends and the Taliban takes over the government of Afghanistan. We've been at war there ever since. Turkey used to rule Iraq, until they got their independence. Iraq and Iran were at war in the 80's. Sunni Islamic vs. Shia Islamic. Gave Iraq weapons to help fight Iran. Kurd's bombed and gassed people of his own country. They attacked Kuwait in 1990 and we then sent troops over to Saudi Arabia and freed Kuwait from Iraq control. Weapons of mass destruction, nuclear chemicals and fought for 8 years.
