Monday- We went over 9-2 key questions, and 9-3 group started presenting
9-2 Key Questions
1. Describe the major social changes that affected women during the Progressive Era- Many more women were getting an education, many became teachers, Help push for the passing of the 18th and 19th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution (prohibition and Women's suffrage)
2 Describe women's push for suffrage(voting) and the passing of the 19th Amendment- To give women the same equal rights as men, to be able to work
3. Describe some women who were leaders in the push for suffrage and temperance- Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Jeannette Rankin- (worked to win suffrage in Washington State, was elected the first woman in Congress in 1916, Voted against war in WW1 and WW11)

9-3 Key Questions
-Describe the major accomplishments of Teddy Roosevelt as President- Helped settle the 1902 coal strike in which miners got better pay and a nine hour work day, passed the Elkins act(1903-no rebates), and Hepburn Act(1906-ICC set max RR Rates) which required railroads to be fair and just in their prices and practices, passed the meat inspection Act-1906, Passed the pure food and drug Act(1906), Newlands Act-1902-sold western land and made dams which allowed for irrigation, Conservation, Did not do much for African Americans
-Square Deal- Used his personality, popularity and power of persuasion to get what he wanted, Believed that the federal government was there to help common people, wanted to give everyone a "Square Deal", Used the "bully pulpit" to influence media and help pass laws
-Breaking up strikes- The 1902 coal strike Theodore Roosevelt said that if the two sides couldn't get along he would take the mines
-Regulating railroads-
-Regulating food and drugs- false advertising such as companies saying that your hair will grow better, cures cancer, and other things like that
-Conservation- Cutting down less trees, Stop destroying prairies, stop dumping waste in rivers,and coal mines everywhere
-Policy towards African-Americans- W.E.B. Du Bois(founded the NAACP(National Association of Advancement of Colored People)),
9-4 Key questions
-Describe the major accomplishments and problems of William Howard Taft's presidency- broke up a lot of trusts
-Payne-Aldrich Tariff- Compromise between Sereno E. Payne and Nelson W. Aldrich, Payne's proposal was designed to lower tariff rates (Tax on Imports/exports), Conservative Republicans like Aldrich wanted to protect high tariff rates, the compromise Payne-Aldrich Tariff act had the effect of reducing tariff rates but also enacted a corporation tax

-Policy towards African-Americans-
-Break-up of the Republican Party- Taft decided to run for president and Roosevelt ran for president to. Roosevelt did not get the republican nomination so he ran as a third party candidate in the Progressive party (Bull Moose)
-Describe the outcome of the 1912 Presidential Election.- Wilson won by a blowout against Taft. Roosevelt did not win.
