Monday- Forum post leaders talked about their stories. We watched a little clip of SNL about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Took notes on Soviet Union

    • Lenin suffered a stroke in 1922 and died and Stalin became in charge

    • Russia became communist and changed name to USSR in 1922

  • Potsdam Deceleration 
    • Dismantle the current government of Japan
    • There will be war crimes trials fro the atrocities committed by Japan throughout WW2
    • Japanese military forces will be disarmed and allowed to return home 
    • Democracy will be promoted as well as Freedom of Speech, religion, and of thought, as well as respect for fundamental human rights
    • Japan will be allowed to have industry so they can make money to pay for reparations. World trade will also be enabled at some point
    • Allied (US) occupation of Japan (1945-1952) will end once Japan accomplishes all the above points

    • The allies shared information from RADAR and High Frequency Radio Direction Finding
    • RADAR provided means of detecting vessels and aircraft above the surface
    • HF/DF was used to locate the sources of enemy radio transmissions such as submarines
    • Allied Intelligence leaders began sharing code-breaking secrets, known as "very special intelligence" and classified under-cover names such as "Super" and "Magic"

  • Tokyo Rose- Iva Toguri
    • Forced to broadcast propaganda to the Allied Troops for Japan
    • In these radio programs, she taunted the troops and played music from home
    • She was a US citizen
    • Convicted of treason
  • African Americans in WW2
    • Still segregated 
    • African American troops were segregated
      • They would mostly do cooking and cleaning
    • Tuskegee Institute/Airmen
      • Proved that African Americans can be great pilots
  • OPA and Rationing
    • Gasoline rationing began in May 1942 limiting use to five gallons per week 
    • Truckers were given a T stamp for gas
    • Rules
      • You were not allowed to give out your stamps 
  • War Finance Committee and War bonds
    • Over the course of the war 85 million Americans purchased bonds totaling approximately $184 billion
    • Helped pay for the war
    • It was an investment for US citizens 
    • As low as $18.75 per bond
    • Ten years later gov't paid out
