Today Kody finished his presentation.
D-Day
-Germany put obstacles in the water. On June 6th the invasion began. There was fog and so when the planes were flying they couldn’t really see so they weren’t much help. There was difficulty with navigation because the seas were acting up. They missed their marks of landing and 16 tanks went in and only two landed. Omaha beach was the beach with the most obstacles. There were high bluffs, machine guns, and artillery. The infantry was leaderless from the start because the Germans had a ton of machine guns and they just wiped out the leader and a whole bunch of people. We lost 120,000 people. We lost a more people then Germany did.
Then we moved into why the allies won.
-Pacific Front
-The advantages of the allies were magic, and the Navajo code talkers. Magic was the Japanese code that we figured out. We had more natural resources, atomic bombs, and more people. The battle of Midway was the turning point. The battle of Okinawa and 250000 people lost their lives. Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the surrender of Japan. They didn’t at first, so we dropped atomic bombs and then they did. The people that were still alive after that had a lot of radiation poisoning and other problems. Occupation, Tojo was put to death and then we helped rebuild Japan. We helped them because we didn’t want them to become communists.
-European Front
-Battle of Atlantic
Germany sunk U.S. ships because they were trying to get food…
U.S. used ships with sonar and planes with radar so they could find the enemies before they got there. We could also rebuild ships faster then Germany.
Their turning point was when Eisenhower, Bradley, and Patton got together and became allies.
-Battle of the Buldge-
German tanks broke weak American defenses. The Germans lost a lot of troops and planes. They pretty much lost everything so they went back.
The Marshall Plan
It was the rebuilding and creating a stronger economic foundation for,. Something but I couldn’t really get it all down because they went to fast….
-Why we won WWII.
-We had tons of resources so could make so much more stuff then anyone else. We could provide for us and all the allies. The axis powers were running out.
-We had better technology. We had the atomic bomb.
-We had their codes, but they didn’t have our. We were able to decode theirs but they couldn’t do that to us. The Navajo code talkers were a big part of it to.
-The women did a lot of the factory work and they kept all the jobs going to things could get done.
-The allied soldier, we had a ton of soldiers. We had so much more people then the axis powers did.
-Japan invaded China and they lost a lot of people.
-Germany invaded the Soviet Union and they lost a lot of people there to. Hitler had troops everywhere with all the countries he took over.
