We did a little review first while people got their internet up.

Today we started on Great Britain.

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

-They got their African land back. They also got some money from Germany. They didn’t want to be to hard on Germany because they traded with Germany and they didn’t want Germany’s economy to be bad because then they wouldn’t trade.

2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

-They had a Fascist government. It stressed nationalism and the interest of the state above those individuals. They had a constitutional monarchy. They had a king or queen, but they don’t have all the power because of the law or constitution.

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?

-Winston Churchill was the leader. He was a political leader and people liked him. The prime minister resigned and Winston was already a political leader so then he became prime minister.

4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

5. What were the goals of the leader?

-He was very aggressive. He promised blood, sweat, and tears. He led them through victory during WWII. He committed to the Nation into an all out war until the victory was achieved. His high level of energy was an inspiration to the country of Britain during the war.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?

-At first they wanted to stay out of the war, but as the war went on they became more involved. The US gave Britain weapons during the war. Their main strategy was keeping Germany out of Great Britain. They were trying to outlast the Germans.

7. What role did they play in WWII?

-They tried to appease Germany by the Munich pact. They said that they would support to Poland if Germany invaded. In 1938 they made this Munich Pact. Great Britain, Italy, Germany, and France were in the Munich Pact. Hitler demanded Sudetenland because most of the people there were German. He wanted all the German people back that ‘belonged’ in Germany. They gave in to what Hitler wanted but they made him say that he wouldn’t take anymore land. He said ok, but he was lying. The policy of appeasement is like when you give a leader what they wanted. They did this with Hitler and it wasn’t a good idea.

8. Who were their allies in WWII?

They were part of the Allied powers.

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

-The ‘great British navy’ wasn’t so great anymore. Their food was being rationed. Women had to work in the factories. If they didn’t work then they had to join the services. After WWII the major powers of the war were U.S. and the Soviet Union. They used to be the top power in the world but the war hurt them.
