Today I studied for the test and then I had to take the test. I think I will do alright, but im not sure.

The questions that i studied were:

Describe the cycle of the Great Depression?
-People lose jobs and so there is less spending. Then companies dont make money so they have to lay more people off. Then the cycle just repeats.

What was the New Deal(1st and 2nd) and it's goals(3 R's)?
-FDR's plan to help people get out of the Great Depression. It created jobs and stuff like that.

-The first one was aimed to help the top people. The second was to help the common people.

-Relief for the people. Reform the banks and businesses. Recovery from the depression.

Why did people criticize the New Deal?

-There were people who said they werent going enough to help the old and poor people. They said that FDR needed to give out more money.

-There were other people who said he was doing too much and labeling him as a communist.

Why was FDR upset with the US Supreme Court and what did he do to try to solve this issue?
-They were calling him unconstitutional. He tried court packing. He wanted to pack the Supreme Court. He wanted to add 1 supreme court justice for every member who was over 70. That would allow him to add 6 people and he would want to add democrats. It did not pass and many people thought he was trying to become a dictator.

How did the New Deal help:

-CCC, PWA. They built bridges and homes, they had a lot of construction jobs.

-NLRB helped make labor unions legal. It allowed people to have fair working privilages.

young people-

-Eleanor Roosevelt started it and got FDR to approve it. It allowed young people to stay in school. It allowed them to get jobs so they can afford school.

banks/business-

-RFC gave money to the banks so they can give out loans.

-FDIC would insure peoples money in the bank.

home owners-

-USHA gave money to communites so they could build houses. They thought that giving them a house would make people want to do more with their lives like go out and try to find jobs.

-HOLC helped people to keep their homes. It prevented forclosure and extended loans.

elderly-

-FERA gave out social security.

Native Americans
-They could now buy and manage their own land. It reversed the Dawes act and it allowed them to govern themselves. They tried to bring their culture and religion back like in schools and stuff like that.

Key terms:

Hundred Days-

-The first 100 days of a presidents term.

fireside chats-

-where FDR would talk to people over the radio and encourage them.

priming the pump-

-where the government had to put more money into the economey to help get it started again.
