Today in class I learned that racial discrimination had been around since the colonial era. The are many different types of groups that have been discriminated upon. Some would include Native Americans, Asian Americans, African Americans, Latin Americans, American Jews, Irish Americans and some other immigrant groups."Whites" also get discriminated upon also. African Americans were the most targeted upon during the late 1800's and early 1900's. Most African Americans didn't even go to the same schools as most White Americans. In 1890 only 1 percent of black teenagers went to public schools and the other ones that actually went to school went to a private school. The private schools weren't even federally funded. By 1910 only three percent of African Americans went to public schools.I think that would really suck to have to good to a private school that had like no money just because of the color of your skin. I feel really bad for those people that would have to go through that. I would really hate to have to go to a school where I was not accepted just because of the color of my skin. I would really feel out of place and defiantly not welcome. I think it would be really hard to witness this types of things happening to African Americans.
