Today in class I learned that the Spoils system was when people in two different political parties would give jobs to people for a certain amount of money. William Marcy Tweed was head of the democratic party machine. I also learned that democrats had a lot of control over New York. Tweed was even more powerful than the major! Immigrants loved him because when they got over here he would give them money just so they would be loyal to him. Boss Tweed was a man that was in control of the elections. He was the guy that would count the votes. Many people thought that whoever Tweed wanted to win would really win.I don't really think that was fair of Boss Tweed to just pick whoever he wants to win win the election. If I lived back then I probably wouldn't be very happy with him.
