We are finshing Chapter 10 blog discussions.PhilippinesGot the Philippines from the Spanish-American War. It was a territory at first instead of a commonwealth. We set up a democracy there, built roads and schools there, and other things to modernize the country. The Philippine people tried to gain independence. They got full independence in 1946. Japan took control after the U.S.Teddy Roosevelt Nobel Peace PrizeHe got it because he made a lot of negotiations. The Russo-Japanese War was between Russia and Japanese. Russia should have won the war, but Japan won. Both sides wanted to end the war, and TR met with both sides and worked out the Treaty of Portsmouth, which ended it. Japan was isolationist.MexicoMexico was poor and had a poor government. They were mad because Americans owned the land with natural resources and they could not get any of the money from that (mines). They were under a military dictatorship, and the leader was overthrown because they were angered about not getting any money. Missionary Diplomacy was going on. America felt like we could do whatever we wanted to in Latin America.I plan on reading the chapter because I think it will help clear up all of these topics. I don't think Bruns wants us to read the chapter, though, but I feel like I need to!!!
