Puerto Rico: got control October 18, 1898 from Spanish-American War, Spain granted Puerto Rico to be self-rule and then we took over, part of Treaty of Paris, current status is a Territory, adopted Constitution, are US citizens, but can't vote for Presidents, did vote to become a state. Alaska: bought it from Russia in 1867(afraid that Great Britain was going to take it because of Canada) for 7.2 million dollars, now a US State as of 1959. Hawaii: control in 1959 becoming a state, British invaded the Polynesians, the Queen basically handed it over because she didn't want to die, used for Military Base and sugarcane. Imperialism ended after WW2.
