- No roads or rail road access to or from Berlin
- 2 million people affected by this because they could not get supplies
- Stalin's East Berlin blockade led to an airlift
- From June of 1948 til September of 1949
- airlift provided 1534 tons of food daily
- After the blockade stopped Berlin was split into two sector a East federal republic and the West was democratic
