Today is Wednesday and I guess we are continuing with presentations. NATO was the allied powers' peace keeping organization that was designed to fight communism. America was pretty much the biggest contributor and member because we had Atomic bombs and we were simply the strongest and most powerful nation. NATO threatend commnism with the bombs but tried to prevent the spread of communism through diplomatic means.
NATO is still around today and it seems to have been a pretty god organization. De-Stalinization. This was started b Nikitia Khrushchev on March of 1956. He stated that he would begin the process of De-Stalinization. Began after Stalin's death. THis was the process of removing Stalin propoganda and statues and remnants of his regime.
A Cult of Personality is when a person uses his power to create a heroic image of oneself. De-Stalinization was a great way for Nikitia to start a communist revolution. The entire military had to be reorganized because Stalin had diminished the Military.
Peaceful Coexistence was a theory by the Soviets to try and remain peaceful with non-communist countries. In theory, this would allow communist and non-communist countries to trade, communicate, and cooperate peacefully with each other without any conflict.
Mao Zhe Dong was not a very nice man. He fought a Civil war against Chang Ki Schech or watever. Mao wins and Chang flees the country. So, Mao wins and, now what... he basically takes over the country with his communist ways. He wanted to start a revolution. He did, and he then focused his efforts on fighting the anti revolutionaries. The largest mass killing in history occured when over 2 million people were murdered for being agianst the revolution.
Under Mao's communistic regime, over 20 million Chinese died due to starvation because it was illegal for them to grow their own private food. Mao was the leader of China in 1972. In 1972, President Richard Nixon went to China for a conference with Mao to discuss relations for peace. THis was perhaps the biggest or most important thing that Nixon did.
Ping Pong was a ig sprt in China and it was played at the conference. Taiwan was no longer part of China after this conference. This was a very big deal because Taiwan basically became a province of China that has different views than China.
