Berlin Blockade

  • Mainly the cold war
  • The cold war just getting started
  • The usa and ussr had different aims for what they were going to do with Germany
  • An attempt by the soviet union to block allied access to the Germany city of Berlin
  • Failure yes
  • Only for the soviet union
  • West turned into a major victory
  • Stalin was president of Soviet union
  • Ordered the Berlin blockade
  • This sudden and unexpected move led to the Berlin Airlift

Berlin Airlift

  • Biggest humanitarian airlift ever taken by the air force
  • Over 2.3 million tons of supplies flown into Berlin in over approximately 10 months
  • Mainly a solution to the supplies problem during the cold war
  • They sent over fuel food and other essential goods

  • The ussr became a bigger threat than Germany
  • Western Europe wanted to do something about it
  • Us got involved
  • Treaty of Brussels 1948
  • Expansion of peace between Britain and France
  • Belgium

  • Wanted united states to sign it
