Today in class we are having our first blog discussion in about two weeks!
First off, Mr. Bruns is back! He says he is feeling better, but he is still in some pain. :( Secondly, he currently going over a couple slides before we start our discussions. He is discussing the Big Four right now, and about a few maps..
On to blog discussions!
Treaty of Versailles
-France brought on too hard. They wanted their own little Rhineland area.
-War started in Servia, ignited by shooting of next king of Austria-Hungry. It was like a domino effect. Countries took sides, then colonies, and so forth.
-Treaty made Germany pay for all the damages.
-lowered payments and Hitler said would not pay anymore
-US owed money to Germany to pay off
-Germany had to unarm themselves with tanks, submarines, no more than 100 thousand troops, limitied to six battleships, overall Germanys military was disabled. (even before Hitler, they would break the rules in secretive motions and 20 years later turned out to be one of the most powerful countries in the world)
-germany no doubt would have made France pay that if not more, so today people dont think it was too much for them to owe.
-Germany agreed to accept and sign, not only because they were forced to, but their name was not on it, so they were thinking they werent getting any part of it, just to go against france. Germany wasnt invited as well as the Soviet Union.
-Land that was lost from Germany was given to Russia, France, Belgium, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, and Poland.
-Leauge of Nations,
-5 permanent members are: Great Britian, France, Italy, US, Japan.
-There were also 4 non-permanent members that rotated
-Bruns think that is one of the most biggest mistakes in our history. He says if US was involved when Hitler was in power, we could have and would have done something about it. But we did not want to accept and take action because we were the most powerful country in the world.
