Today in class we did blogs/group discussion since we had the same blog topic. The treaty of Versailles ended ww1 between Germany and the Allied Powers. It blamed Germany for the entire war. The Big 4 were in the treaty but Italy was the smallest of the powers.
We talked about how the war started and how France wanted to destroy Germany. All of the countries in the war rushed to help their colonies and allies. Germany was made to pay all of the war reparations. Germany had to disarm themselves. No subs, tanks, 100 thousand troops, 6 ships of all classes and couldn’t make guns. Couldn’t have an airforce.
They made the Rhineland demilitarized so it could be a buffer for France. Germany went into so much of a depression that they burned money because it was cheaper than buying anything. The League of Nations wasn’t that powerful because it didn’t have a military but the treaty created it. Germany was forced into the treaty because the big four threatened to resume fighting.
Germany lost a ton of land that was part of the country already. A lot of these territories were previous border disputes. Some of the controversial lands were given to the League of Nations and oversea colonies were given to other countries. Most land that they did lose was part of their main economic centers and natural resource areas.
Do we think that the treaty led to ww2? Yes, yes we do. He wanted to undo everthing the treaty did to Germany.
