Today in class we did some more presentations to do. We did a little more review on the ones we have done and then continued.
Great Britain
1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?
They gained a couple of Germany’s colonies and they lost their trade with Germany.
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years (1919-1938)?
It is a constitutional monarchy in which there is a king or queen that the constitution limits their power.
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Winston Churchill was their Prime Minister. He was an army officer among other things and he was really popular with the people.
4. How did this leader change their country (for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
He worked to keep the Germans from bombing them. He kept saying that they would never surrender and kept morale up.
5. What were the goals of the leader?
He wanted to remain a great power of democracy and not to surrender.
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years (1919-1938)?
They only had nine divisions and a lot of land forces ready for cross channel invasions. They worked on gaining air power.
7. What role did they play in WWII?
Churchill reorganized and improved the navy. He worked on destroying U-boats. They took place in the Munich Conference where Hitler demanded the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia, he demanded this and they were going to give German lands to him so they wouldn’t have to go to war.
8. Who were their allies in WWII?
They were with the Allied Powers, US, USSR, and some more.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?
They were bombed the entire war. 300,000 men were killed and 60,000 civilians. It kind of lost its status of being a major world power.
