Today in class we had yet another WTL and then we moved on to presentations.

France

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

It gave them a lot of land and because of them Germany was crippled. They didn’t get everything that they wanted. Part of the treaty was supposed to guarantee help from the United States and Great Britain.
2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

During the war they had the Free French Underground which was based in Great Britain and the Vichy Government that hunted Jews and gave them to Germany.
3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
4. How did this leader change their country (for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

They had a democracy of some sort.
5. What were the goals of the leader?
6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years (1919-1938)?

During the war they set up a defense along the border to stop them but Germany found out and rallied their troops and attacked them with astounding numbers. After WW1 they built a wall on the Germany border with everything they needed built in but they just went around it.
7. What role did they play in WWII?

France joined with Great Britain with the Munich Pact because Germany was taking over countries before the war broke out and Hitler lied about stopping in order to give them what they wanted. They declared war in 1939 and surrendered in 1940, a month later, with 350,000 soldiers dead and a half million civvies dead.
8. Who were their allies in WWII?

They were part of the Allied Powers.
9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

They were taken over by Germany in a whole month so their country was destroyed and their economy was in ruins.
