Today we did blog discussions. Shannon and I had the geography of Afghanistan. Afghanistan is mostly a desert climate that has lots of mountains (the Hindu Kush mountain range). One major river system leads to the ocean. The population of Afghanistan in 1991 was 26 million people. Matt and Kara had the history. They listed the rulers in the very early ages. Kara talked about how they had a lot of wars. They had wars with the British and Russians. We also went through a few details of the Cold War. We helped give Al Quida people power in the 1980's, ironicly. In 1979 the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. Issac had information on the Taliban. In September 1996 they took over the city of Kabul. They shut down schools because most teachers were women. Men must have beards and turbans, and women can't go to school or have jobs. The Taliban's very anti-women. Women must also wear burqas. The Taliban is no longer in power. They're starting to make a comback, though. They're now more of a terrorist organization. Cheryl and Brittany had 9/11. The World Trade Center towers in New York City were attacked by the first two terroist planes. At first many thought it was an accident, but as soon as the second plane hit people knew we were under attack. One of the other planes that hit that day was in Washington D.C. at the Pentigon. That's all we got through today.
