We did blog discussions from last week’s blogs. We talked about Dorothia Lane who was a photographer who took photos of what was actually happening to farmers so people knew what was going on. She married a university guy and they interviewed the farmers to document the struggles of farmers. She had polio but it didn’t affect her that much. She had a tough life and this helped her to relate to the migrant workers. The new deal helped to create businesses and help farmers. It was basically to stimulus package. They cut pensions and wages to save 500 million a year. Set minimum wages and gave tax breaks to businesses. It made the FDIC among many other new programs.Eleanor Roosevelt was an only child and her mother didn’t like her looks. She was always insecure and she became less secure when she married her fifth cousin Franklin Roosevelt. They had six children. She helped him to live through his disabilities. She did a lot of things and tried to help the African Americans.FDR was very wealthy. He worked his way up the ladder of success and polio wouldn’t stop him. He believed in reform and this helped him to gain the presidency. The agriculture adjustment act reduced the production of crops. This was to help the overproduction so they were to plant less so the price of foods could stabilize. The NYA helped the young; FDR didn’t want to focus on the young. It helped the young to keep going to school and to get jobs.
