Today we are having a discussion about our blogs that we chose a topic that interests us about chapter 15. My topic was about Franklin D. Roosevelt. Here are my notes.- Farmers had a big problem during the 30s and 20s because they over produced- FDR married his 5th cousin Eleanor- Feb. 1st is black history month- 3 R’s relief for unemployment reform for businesses recovery from the great depression- 100 days: started by FDR. First day passing banking systems- After the first 100 days is now pretty much a report card for the president- Eleanor Roosevelt- born in New York city Oct. 11 parents died/ lived with grandparents- FDR: 32 president- FDR: was paralyzed with polio, there was not much handicap accessibility- Amazing to have a handicap president. Kept it on a down low.- Dorthea Lang: famous photographer during the Great Depression. Had a hard childhood. Got to know those she took pictures of and wrote stories about them. Wanted to show the people about the struggles. Most famous picture was of the migrant worker. Symbolized hopelessness.- Culture of 1930s: Jazz, radios, Bob Hope show, movies were becoming more famous such as the Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind, Americans paid 25 cents to see a movie. This was an escape from real life.- FDR: Served 12 years- 3 terms. Was elected four times and died during his 4th term. Created the new deal, work through his polio and created a rehabilitation center. Was big in the war effort.- Fire sights chads? 30 radio broadcast to keep faith in the banks and in the government. People felt he was talking directly to him.- FDR: Talked about the AAA- Francis Perkins: first woman to be involved in the government. Changed her name from Fanny to Francis. First female cabinet member. Part of the New Deal.- New Deal: Renominated Hoover. Republicans were doomed. Similar to the 2008 election.- John Manor Canes: Intelligent, wrote a lot of books during the Depression, and sent them to the president to help better the economy. A well known economist. Very influential.- John Collar: created the Indian reorganizational Act. Let the Indians go to their own school and own their own land- Games: Monopoly, garn golf, Johnny on a pony, stick ball
