Today in the beginning of class we discussed a current event that is going on in Haiti. A Baptist religion group from Idaho has been accused by the Haitian government of stealing children from their country and taking them to the United States. The group has denied all allegations. We also talked about the “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” policy which prevented homosexuals from joining the military. Then we went over the map for the states and capitals test which we will take tomorrow and then finished up with our political/economic systems presentations. One presentation was about communism which is getting rid of all private property and treating everyone equally, meaning that everyone would share everything. Karl Marx was a German man who despised capitalism and believed that the common or poor people should overthrow the rich and powerful and create a system where everyone is equal. Therefore, he developed the theory of communism. Today, the only countries with communism are China, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, and North Korea.
