-Megan went today and her two topics were the music of 1930’s and Rural Electrification Administration/Act. The REA was passed May 11 1935. It gave power to the people, it brought power, water, ect. It was successful because it brought electricity to farms. This organization was very important to farmers. The radio started in the early 1900’s. Jazz was the music of the time and it was very influential. The radio saved people money; they didn’t have to go to concerts anymore. Most jazz musicians were African American.

Brooke went next and her two topics were the United States Housing Authority (USHA) and fads and Entertainment of the 1930’s. The USHA was and agency that gave people who couldn’t afford houses or who was unemployed homes or places to stay. It is still around in some states today. Progressives thought it would change their attitude about life. The USHA started with 650,000 people that were homeless. The Private Sector saw a problem with what the USHA was doing. They wanted to separate the housing from people who were too poor and people who were too lazy to work. They would build homes as well. Games that were popular in the 1930’s were Jonny on a Pony, Stoop Ball, Stick Ball, and Monopoly was created in 1934. Betty Boop was the first American icon. Drive in theatres were popular in the 1930’s.

Kelsey T. went next and her two topics were the Home Owners Lone Corporation and Fashion of the 1930’s. The HOLC was passed in 1933. It was successful it let people and helped people keep their homes. It prevented foreclosure and it extended loans. Before the HOLC people had three to four years to pay off their houses. Today its fifteen to thirty years to pay off your house. Women wore loose baggy clothing and they had shorter hair. Men wore suits, long trousers, and they wore mostly dark clothing.
