Today in U.S. history we learned:U.S. Constitution:Protects rights of people- Bill of Rights (speech, religion, press, right to fair trial, right to bear arms)Sets up our gov't system- executive (president), leglislative (house of rep., senate), judicial (supreme court)-replaced Articles of ConfederationWashington Presidency:My topic. Hamilton's beliefs more today.Jefferson Presidency:Purchased Louisiana Purchase, $15 million from France. Hired Lewis and Clark to explore it. Smaller gov't (state, local) , believed more in farming.Andrew Jackson Presidency:Organized Trail of Tears, 4,000 Native Americans died, Marched to what is now Oklahoma, 7,000 troops forced them out. Born poor, not very educated. Southern states refuse to abide by law, Jackson forced South Carolina to abide because all states have to have the same laws, otherwise country will become what it was like under the Articles of Confederation.Acquiring land:1783, Treaty of Paris after Rev. War, east coast, colonies. Louisiana Purchase. Forida 1819 from Spain. 1845 Texas. 1858 Hawaii.
