Today Mr. Bruns talked about the presentation rubric and the requirements for our powerpoints. Then we began our blog discussions.

The first topic was describe Native American cultures before and after the arrival of Europeans. The indians didn't use guns and they didn't waste anything. Instead they used as much of the animals as they could. They worshiped a lot of nature gods and most of them were nomadic, moving around to follow the buffalo and other food sources. After the arrival of the Europeans, they came in contact guns and other weapons and were forced to move from their homeland onto reservations. The Europeans also brought diseases with them which killed a lot of the natives and they were even forced to practice the same religion as the white men.

Describe reasons why Europeans started exploring in the late 1400's and why settlers came over to live: The Europeans first began exploring to find a faster route from Asia. They were also looking for spices, silks, and animal furs from Asia to make money for their country and make it more powerful. Settlers came over to find religious freedom, escape debt, and many other reasons to make a better life.

List the major countries that explored the new world: The main countries were Portugal, England, Spain, France, and the Dutch. Portugal had Prince Henry the Navigator and Vasco de Gama. Spain had Magellan who was the first person to sail around the world, proving that the earth was round. Christopher Columbus explored the new world, mainly the Carribean. He was also the first person to start the trans-Atlantic slave trade and commit a genocide of an entire tribe of Native Americans. France settled in Canda and along the Mississippi River, the English settled the eastern part of the United States creating the 13 colonies. Spain settled most of Central and South America. Tomorrow we will continue with more blog discussions.
