Kesterson and Petsche went today..they had D-Day and Eastern Europe... Petsche is in tennis so i expect a lot out of his presentation...

D-Day

D-Day was operation overlord, US was invading Normady Beach on tuesday june 6,1944 at 6:30 a.m.

2 Phases- 1.Air Assault

2.Amphibious Landing- By sea and land...attacking by sea to get to land!!

Airborne divisions were dropped behind enemy lines right before D-Day begins...

Machine guns and other high caliber weapons were in the fortified areas...

Thousands of mines were laid on the beaches...

The US had a big problem crossing the English Channell because Germany had received the codes and knew an invasion was coming..US made it look like we were going to invade Clay so Germany would think we were gonna invade at Clay but really we attacked Normady...Hitler moved like all his best soldiers to Clay...

Very bloody battle because Germany dug into the beaches and the ocean was like turning red with so much blood everywhere....

European Front

Operation Market Garden made the amphibious assault easier for the US

The Warsaw uprising was a movement to liberate the Soviet city of Warsaw in Poland...

Battle of Bulge was Hitler's last major offensive to win the war to protect the capital city of Berlin...

Turkey loses their neutrality in February 1945...

Turkey did not lose a single soldier in WW2...

The Rhine River was the final obstacle for the US and the rest of the Allies...

Dividing and conquering many parts of Germany was the strategy of the Allies...

Germany had one last struggle for Italy...

Operation Plunder was a success...

The Soviets were the first outsiders to see the concentration camps....

The day was on July 23,1944 near Lublin...

There were only 1,000 survivors because the germans left camps abandoned....

April committed su on April 30,1945...

The war ended on May 7,1945...Jews were happy!!!

Mussolini was executed by Italy and dragged around town behind a truck...

Germany surrendered at Reims....Soviet headquarters in Berlin ended WW2 in Europe the following day....
