By May 8, 1945, we gained air contorl over Europe. This and many other factors combined to form a enormous task force. This task force is responsible for the largest amphibious attack in history by the Allies. The Soviets attacked Germany and start taking back the land that Germany had gained. On April 30th Hitler commited sucide and the new Nazi leader agreed to surrender.
The Soviet Union entered the war promising to aid Japan after the first atomic bomb was dropped on them. Three days later we dropped another bomb on them and then on the 14th they surrendered. Negotiations took place on the USS Missouri.
It is terrible to think of the annhilation that had to take place on Japan with the Atomic bombs before they were willing to surrender. I cannot imagine how the people felt who dropped the actual bombs. Such a destructive force should never have been invented, but if it hadn't, maybe we wouldn't even be hear to talk about it.
