Today after debating a few topics, Chelsea did her assigned blog. Then we continued to watch our planet in peril video. Notes:

Greenland:

  • Greenland is melting, there's a circle for when Ice melts. After some ice melts, the water absorbs more sunlight, it causing more ice to melt.
  • Greenland is the world's largest island, and is covered in 80% ice- wich is melting fast because the world's warming up.
  • Greenland is losing a hundred billion tons of ice each year.
  • If the entire ice sheet melted it would raise the sea level by twenty three feet, millions of people live on coastal areas three feet above sea level.
  • As ice melts mulans appear (huge wholes in the ice that can reach fourty feet deep, with water flowing through it that carves into the ice)
  • The water flowing through the ice drops to the ground, and can lift up the ice.
  • Even if we stop increase of CO2, level it out, the temperatures will continue to rise with how much were producing right now.
  • On the east coast of greenland, a new island has emerged that was recently connected to greenland and it broke off from the ice retreating.
  • Without the retreating ice, and global warming, it would still be connected to the main part of land.

Alaska:

  • The Polar Bear is changing as it's enviroment does around it, the cub has started to get smaller because it's harder for them to find food.
  • The ice is melting in Alaska, just like it is in Greenland.
  • Bears are drownding trying to swim across rivers because they got wider and drownding, some of the bears resort to cannibolism from hunger
  • Two-thirds of the world's polar bears might be gone in the next fifty years
  • The polar bear now is the first animal protected because of Global warming.
