Today Courtney, Shannon, and Morganne gave their presentation about deforestation:

  • Deforestation is the destruction and cutting down of forests and trees for commercial uses.
  • Some of the causes include illegal and legal logging, overpopulation, wild fires, commercial and industrial uses and overgrazing.
  • Some of the effects include, the destruction of wildlife homes, an increase in flooding, erosions, landslides, climate change, and drier soil.
  • We need trees to regulate the temperature of the earth, gives us our supply of paper, improves air quality, keeps soil rich, homes for animals, and give us shade
  • Examples of areas suffering from deforestation incldue Indonesia, Brazil, Malaysia, and the tropical rain forests.
  • Things we can do to help: plant trees anywhere and everywhere, "reduce, reuse, recycle", donate to organizations, avoid buying from companies that contribute to deforestation, (i.e. McDonalds)

The rest of class we practiced going over the Europe map. Mr. Bruns introduced us to the part that we had not learned yet.
