Today in 4th hour history we talked more about our 8th grade review blogs. Today we went over two more topics. The topics that we covered today were The Articles of the Confederation ,The U.S. Constitution, and The Washington Presidency. The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution in the United States of America. It was written in 1776 and was ratified in 1781. It made the colonies one and they started to come together as a new country. The articles had problems, the main problem was that the government had very little power. The government could not tax, give land grants, use tariff's, and could not enforce the laws inside the articles. Event though it had problems the government passed the Land Ordinance Act of 1785 under the Articles of Confederation. The U.S. Constitution- Protects our rights and sets up the three branches of government. It was better than the articles because the federal government had more power and could enforce laws. The Bill of rights is the first ten Amendments. It was controversial because we were the first country to have a document like this. The Washington Presidency- George Washington was elected unanimously, and no one ran against because he was a hero from the war. He seved two terms and refused the third term. George Washington wanted to show other countries that we could be our own country by ourselves. The Jefferson vs. Hamilton Debate set up political partiesToday I learned what the Articles of the Confederation were. I also learned the two things that the U.S. Constitution does. Before today I did not know that George Washington was elected unanimously to be our president. I did not know about teh Jefferson vs, Hamilton debate was before today. In my opinion I really learned a lot from the presentations by my fellow classmates today.
