US Control of Philippines- The Spanish American war was fought here and in cuba so we had them and made them into a territory instead of a common wealth and the people there wanted to be independent but we didn't do that for them. The Philipan American War is how we really got control of the Philippines, they thought that we were just like Spain because we took over. During our control we gave them a democratic government, and helped to modernize the country, schools, roads, buildings ect. and that was the good part. In 1946 they were given independence after being controled by Japan during WWII then we gave them their freedom right after.Teddy Roosevelt's Nobel Peace Prize- He made a lot of nagotiations. Ruso Jappanese War, between Japan and Russia, and Japan won. Japan knew it couldn't be a long war so they went to TR to ask about him being an arbitrator to end the war and Russia wanted to end it to. TR met with representitives from both sides to work something out. Treaty of Portsmouth ended the war in 1905, it shifted the balance of power by making allies and so on. After the Treaty of Portsmouth Japan was like the super power of Asia in the early 1900's. TR got the nobel peace prize for this Treaty.US issues with Mexico- Mexico was really poor and they were mad that Mexico had mines and stuff that we owned so only the rich politians got the money.-Breann Lehr
