Today I spent the day studying for my test of chapters 5-8, and then eventually took the test. I studied for the test by looking up the questions for Chapter 6 Section 3. I once again learned that Andrew Carnegie started Carnegie Steel and made it powerful by using horizontal and vertical intergration. Next I looked up John D. Rockefeller, I learned that he revolutionized the petroleum industry, his business became powerful by forming trusts, but his business was hurt by the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. After this I learned more about Social Darwinism, it said survival of the fittest. I also learned it applied to businesses because a bigger business would take over smaller businesses, so only the strongest businesses will survive. I looked over this section because I thought it was confusing. After taking my test I research for my Chapter 9 Project. I have to research on Muckrakers. I learned that a Muckraker is an American writer who tried to expose corruption in businesses and in politics. I also learned that the term originated from a character in John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. The final thing that I learned was that some of the first muckrakers were Ida Tarbell, Lincoln Steffens, and Upton Sinclair. This is what I learned about Muckrakers today.
