We continued listening to presentations.


China:

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them? Did not get a lot out of the Treaty of Versailles.


2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years (1919-1938)?
There were 2 main governments. The Chinese communist party: led by Mao Zedong. Chinese nationalist party led by: Chiang Kai-Shek. China was in a revolution.

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Chiang Kai-Shek and Mao Chiang worked together to fight against Japan. Nationalists want to get control and get rid of communists. Communists wanted to get control and get rid of nationalists. But they both wanted
to Japan out of their country.

4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

5. What were the goals of the leader?
Chiang Kai-Shek. Became leader because he was close to Sun Yat-sen’s the leader before. Chiang wanted to destroy communist. He killed rivals.
Corrupt. He only worried about himself and not the people. Mao Zedong
People preferred him. Was a leader of the communist party. H wanted a
communist
China. He fought with guerilla tactics. Zedong fought the nationalist as well as Japanese. Lead China from 1949-76. H went on many purges.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
China was at a Civil War with itself. After Treaty of Versailles China did not get back the land they wanted and that went to Japan.

7. What role did they play in WWII? China fought the Japanese in 1931 at Manchuria. Japanese invaded China in 1937.. China had been at war with the Japanese for 8 years by 1939.

8. Who were their allies in WWII?
Allies: United Kingdom, US, France, Liberia, Greece

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country? The main government of China lost a lot of resources during the Japan invasion. A lack of moral and corruption also had a effect on the economy. Natural resources were depleting because of the fighting. China lost 3.22 million soldiers.


France

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?
France and Great Britain’s friendship strengthened. It lead to cutting France in half. France wanted revenge on Germany.

2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?
The government was republic, didn’t last very long. Then later on they had a third republic.

3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?
Charles De Gaulle, Vichy Government, Left for England.

4. How did this leader change their country(for the better and worse) prior to WWII?
Charles De Gaulle was only a General before WWII. Phillippe Petain was the leader of the Vichy government

5. What were the goals of the leader?
To get all of France back. Get Hitler out of France. Join the Allies.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?
Magi not line was to keep the German’s out of their land. Ineffective.

7. What role did they play in WWII?
Declared war on Germany the day after Germany intruded Poland. Their strategy was defensive. Germans were ready to fight.

8. Who were their allies in WWII?
China, United Kingdom, Soviet Union, Canada, China

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

Had a big effect on the future of all French West Africa. 1943 branches of an organization known as Communist Study Groups.

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

Put full blame on Germany, and said they started the war. They were to pay for the war damages. Had to reduce the size of their navy and were not able to have an air
force.


2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

Hitler came to power they formed the Nazi party. Hitler took over all state governments. Weimar Republic; 1919; weak government that was ran by Jews. ; led to Hitler and the Third Reich. Hitler did come to power legally. Hitler had gone to
prison from trying to over throw the
Weimar Republic.

When Von Hindenburg died. Hitler became chancellor. He had great support of the people in the Nazi group and blamed the Jew for the loss in the war.

5. What were the goals of the leader?

Wanted to get rid of the Jews, gain back the land they lost in WWI. Wrote Mind Comp or My Struggles. He tried to make only a Iran race (blonde hair blue eyes). And get rid of what he called inconsiderable others. He wanted to make the German Army stronger and more respected.

6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?


Improved the youth of new weapons. Blitzkrieg- not fighting in the trenches. They brought in airplanes and no countries expected it so they were all
getting over run by
Germany’s Blitzkrieg style.

7. What role did they play in WWII?

The aggressor. Caused most of it. With out Germany they would not have the war in Europe and the war would have been won more easily and much smaller. They were overrunning countries left and right and their Blitzkrieg syle

8. Who were their allies in WWII?

Italy, Japan, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. (axis powers)

9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

Germany was divided into four zones. The Nazi Party fell apart. Hitler escaped execution and trial by committing suicide
