Today, we did blog discussions about Afghanistan and Anastasia finished up her blog discussion from last week. The geography of the country is the first topic that we went over and discovered it's about as big as Texas and has a lot of mountains (Hindukush Mountains) and it's landlocked. It has four rivers that go through it, three major dams, the capital is Kabul, and the population is roughly 26 million. Another topic was the history. Some of the major historic events were that Alexander the Great controlled the land, in the 1900's many other countries were trying to take over Afghanistan, they had many wars, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan and the Cold War began. We learned about the group called, Taliban, were the government and now more like a terrorist organization. They took over the capital, they are very strict Islamic people, girls couldn't go to school and had to wear burqas. Women are treated very unfairly there.
