Week of March 9-13

Monday-   Japan-

-Major events that impacted their country between WWI and WWII. 

  • areas controlled by japan, french indochina (vietnaml cambodia, laos)
  • hong kong
  • thailand,
  • british new guinea
  • phillippines
  • guam
  • duch east indies
    • portrugues timor
  • malaya 
  • china was to japan and soviet unuin was to germany   they both tried to invade eachother but they were two big (explain for the test)

-Discuss basic facts: alliance, total casualties, total cost, war goals, etc-

  •  goals were to dominate in asia, natrual resources, trade with the US 

-Tell us about their leader(s) during WWII

tojo

yamamoto- came out with pearl harbor attack point 

 

                -background -  tojo,- around 15 years old went into a cadet school, when he graduated he was ranked 10, went into military . 1936 went in to be a general . named razor, after he became prime minister, start invading other countries for resources and land

                -how they came to power- heroheto, inhertied the throne, became emprorer after his father died, 

                -how they lost power- heroheto lost power when the war ended  

-Discuss the impact of their Homefront and propaganda and what it was like in their country during the war-

  • it was not very good, they did not have enough technologically, did not have enough financial strength 
  • food had to be rationed
  • deteriorating health and living conditions
  • bombings resulted in thousands of deaths 
  • government  spent more time focused on propaganda than the actual war 

-Discuss major battle strategies-

  • invaded china
  • invade defend suicide 

-Discuss major battles that the country was involved in-

  • manchuria, 1931 invasion, rusia 
  • sino japanese war
  • september 9 1945 the second one imperialist policy 
  • pearl harbor- december 1941 japan bombs a US naval base , 2,500 300 18 
  • saipan- sea warfare . june 14th, 1944, nearly all 30,000
  • leyte , japan battle of leyte gulf, october 1944 
  • philippines campaign, 287,000 japanese defending January 1945.
  • iwo jima, america tried to secure to air strips 21,000 well trenched japanese
  • okinawa, final battle by the island of japan and stage was a place to stage an area for invasion 

-Discuss other people/generals from their country in WWII that had a major impact on the war

-Discuss why they won or lost the war

  • final weeks- america nukes nagasaki hiroshima 246,000
  • uranium bomb (little boy) 166,000
  • plutonium bomb 

-Discuss the impact WWII had on the country --

  • 100 of thousands of deaths , everything was destroyed 
  • industrialized

devember 7, 1941, pear harbor .. december 8th, declared war 

the japan attacked pear harbor, japan signed the soviet japenese neautrality act in april. only way to force US hand was to hit them hard in a suprise attack

Went through the rest of the power point. test on friday. Will be studying with the power point on hiaku.
