The Watergate Scandal

The Watergate Scandal happened in the United States in the 1970's. As a result from the break in to the Democratic National Committee H.Q. at the Watergate office complex Nixon was ultimately forced to resign. He was the first president to openly resign from office. Involved in this task of breaking in were 5 guys with the names consisting of-Bernard Barker, Virgilo Gonzales, Eugenio Martinez, James W. McCord, and Frank Sturgis. All five men were charged with attempted burglary and attempted interception of telephone and other communications.

After the FBI found proof that there were connection ties with the re-election committee, the scandal really became a very big publicized item. On August 19, Nixon made statements that the Watergate Scandal had no ties to the White House but they found more evidence that this scandal was linked to the White House when the number for E. Howard Hunt was found in Barker's notebook. Nov. 7, 5 days after my birthday, Richard Nixon was re-elected into office. Evidence came up within the scandal with proof that President Nixon was trying to cover-up what happened in that office on June 17. On August 9, 1974 Nixon officially resigned.

I asked my parents about this situation and they had said it was a really bad deal since Nixon was actually a great president. Although no president election should be fixed. I believe he got the right treatment because he shouldn’t be able to break into somewhere and get the documentation to give him the great odds of winning the election by degrading his opponents. People who don’t know a thing about an election shouldn’t be able to vote. People need to actually learn what they are voting for. Granted, Nixon did a very good job of hiding this.

Persian Gulf War (1990-91)

The first Persian Gulf War started because of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in August of 1990, followed by Iraq's annex of Kuwait. Probably one of the biggest reasons Iraq invaded Kuwait was because of oil. Iraq allegedly said that Kuwait was losing them money, almost 14 million dollars to be exact, from over producing oil when prices were lower. They also said that they were illegally stealing oil from Iraq's Rumaila oil field. 32 nations were officially involved in this war. US troops were deployed into Saudi Arabia on August 7 to protect their oil fields. Nov 29 the UN decided that the Iraqi troops needed to withdraw peacefully. Which they didn’t so it turned into Operation Desert Storm,

Our main goal at first was to hit their weaponry sites with our air strike. After we fulfilled this requirement we sent in land regiments and fought until Iraq signed a cease fire on April 6, 1991.

We shouldn’t be wasting all this time over east. It is only hurting us slowly since they have such good gorilla tactics. They are nimble enough that we can’t fully wipe them out but we can sure get close. I would like to know if Osama bin Laden is still alive or not. I believe we need to stop over there and get our priorities straight over here first.

9/11 and the War on Terror- invasion of Afghanistan

On September 11, 2001 our country was rocked with a bought of terror. Two planes had separately crashed into each world trade center tower. Thousands of lives were devastated from this outcome. Both planes were flown by members of Al Qaeda. The first two, of the four, planes were flown into the twin towers; the third into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the fourth was taken over by the passengers but crash landed into a field in Pennsylvania. 2,995 people died tragically on this day, including the 19 Al-Qaeda terrorist hijackers that rightfully should have died.

The War on Terrorism that is a war on peace was our reaction to the September 11th attacks. The war was supported by the UK and NATO, and was unfortunately started under President George W. Bush. He had five main goals with this war. They consisted of defeating terrorists such as Osama bin Laden and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and destroying their organizations, to identify, locate, and destroy all terrorists along with their organizations, which we found out couldn’t be done, to deny all sponsorship, support, and sanctuary to terrorists, to diminish the underlying conditions that terrorists seek to exploit, and to defend the United State's citizens and interests at home and abroad. It started on October 7, 2001 when British and US soldiers infiltrated Afghanistan.

This has been a very emotional part in history for our present society. Many innocent soldiers have been killed over there. We sent our soldiers over with an m-16 and a Kevlar vest, they might come home with one less leg, but this thing will surely keep a bullet out of the soldier’s chest. This was nothing like Vietnam, except for the bullets, except for the bombs, except for the youth that’s gone but we keep going on. In the Afghan hills the rebels keep hiding and the opium fields keep on providing. That is from an anti war song by Micheal Franti. When the towers fell I was in second grade and I didn’t know what was going on.

Invasion of Iraq (2003)

This invasion started on March 20, 2003 with alliances of GB, Australia, and Poland. The main reason of invasion was to take back our weapons of mass destruction that we had provided them. We also wanted to end Suddams reign, and we wanted to free the Iraqi’s from the harsh treatment. Nobody wanted war, not even our own country wanted war. Bush declared on May 1, 2003 that the end of war was near, but still today we have troops placed over there.

On several different occasions our president has said that we are working on getting our troops out of there, unfortunately in boxes though. We should have never gone over there. And since we did go over there we should have went over with the intent to rebuild their government and rebuild their structure and then get the heck out of their but oh well I suppose, it ain’t up to me.
