The war in Afganistan started on October 7, 2001 as a result of the attacks on September 11. The invasion of Afganistan started with the finding of Osama Bin Laden and other high ranking Al-Qaeda members to put them on trial, to destroy Al-Qaeda completely and to remove the Taliban, group who helped keep Al-Qaeda safe. The Bush Doctrine stated that as policy, it would not distinguish between terrorist organisations and nations or governments that harbor them. Two military operations are currently working in the country. Operation Enduring Freedom is a United States combat operation in the eastern and southern parts of the country along the Pakistan border. The second operation is the International Security Assistance Force which was established by the UN Security Council to secure Kabul and the surrounding areas. The attak took power from the Taliban, but they soon gained it back. The war of trying to restrict Al-Qaeda movement has been harder than thought. Since 2006 Afganistan has seen threats of its stability from increased insurgent activity led by the Taliban, record high levels of drug production, andwith limited control outside of Kabul.I really still don`t get why were still in Afganistan, because haven`t we caught most of the people we needed to ? I think we need to let the people over there run their country because I think we might be making it worse than making it better.
