Valkyrie

This weekend I watched Valkyrie with Tom Cruise. It was about a man named Claus Von Stauggenberg. He was a colonel. He was a part of the plan to try and assassinate Hitler. Valkyrie was a code name of a plan for if Hitler was assassinated. The plan was that the government would take full control of the army after six hours of the assassination. Then they could get rid of whoever they wanted or go after them. Only high ranked people knew about this plan.

Staugegnberg did not like what Hitler was doing and it was not being done for Germany’s best interest. If they were to keep going by Hitler’s ways Germany was going be more than suffering. He wanted the Valkyrie to be in act after three hours instead six. This way they could gain control faster. So Stauggenberg and other men came up with a plan to assassinate Hitler. There was to be a meeting about the war plans and all the high ranked officers and important others were going to be there, including Hitler himself. Stauggenberg was to go to the meeting with a bomb in his brief case. Then he would set the brief case beside him in the meeting room. Another of his men was to come and get him saying he was needed urgently. This would get him out of the danger zone before the bomb went off. It turns out the case was bumped and when it went off, it ended up not killing Hitler.

They thought Hitler had been assassinate and Valkyrie was put into place. They went around trying to gain control, Hitler and his men cut off their communication and this confused them. Some of the men were beginning to buckle under the pressure. Hitler found out who was associated with the plan and had them and their families executed. Stauggenberg’s family was lucky because he knew the consequences and had his family fled from the country. This part was so sad I cried once again just like I had in the Boy in the Striped Pajamas! And because it was Tom Cruise. It was very intense and had me biting at my finger nails until the very end. I never knew World War II movies were so entertaining!
