The ending canidates were, Dwight D. Eisenhower for the Republican Party and Adlai Stevenson for the Democratic Party. Eisenhower won the presidential election with 34,075,529 of the popular vote while Stevenson had 27,375,090. Eisenhower was an old military man for the United States.
The election had taken place in the Cold War era when tension between the United States and Soviet Union were tense. Richard Nixon was Eisenhower's running man, Nixon later became a president but got inpeached over the watergate incident. Eisenhower was 62 when he finally became president.
Being a well liked man for his courages acts during WWII in leading the US into victory it was easy for Eisenhower to slip into office using his military status as a pass in. Because of the militarty status he made it through very simply and easily, the eleciton was pretty close although.
I believe this election was a underestimated and still underestimated result. This is actually the first time I've ever researched it or even thought about researching it, although I must admit I'm glad too, it's just more knowledge into the histroy of our great country.
