Today Mr. Bruns went over our assigned blog. UGGHHH!!!! It was very nice when we didn’t have to worry about those, but oh well. He was just talking about what we need to get done for the end of the year. Our Cold War projects were really the last big thing.

Then we started presentations. Nick started today.

HUAC

-The Americans were scared of becoming communist. 100,000 Americans clamed membership to a communist party.

-The House Un-American Activities Committee.

-It started in 1947. They were investigating communist influences in movie industry. Communists were sneaking propaganda into films. Many of the HUAC were friendly. 10 of them weren’t being friendly and they refused to testify. Since they didn’t cooperate they were sent to prison. There was a ‘black list’ and it was a list of people who they were looking for. These people were being looked for and they were claimed for being communist. They couldn’t get jobs and they were like frowned upon.

HAHAAHAHAH Then Mr. Bruns and Mrs. Bryan and Nick like role played it. It was pretty hilarious.

But, HUAC is no longer around.

Then Kelsey T. went

The Cuban Missile Crisis was an argument between Cuba and the U.S. It all started pretty much because of the Bay of Pigs invasion. We were really close to having a nuclear war.

The Soviet Union was helping Cuba. They had nuclear war heads facing the U.S. JFK ordered the Soviet Union to dismantle the nuclear war heads but they didn’t. We wanted to quarantine Cuba. The Soviet ships stopped when they came close to the U.S. We had nuclear war heads in Turkey pointed at the Soviets. Quarantine is like a block-aid and it was pretty much like a war, but it kind of wasn’t. After Cuba removed their war heads we removed ours from Turkey. The U.S. agreed not to invade Cuba.

Then Kody went.

-McCarthy went into the military because he thought it would help with his campaigning. He never really did any fighting. He stayed like in the buildings and was like working behind the desk. He was full of himself. Some people say that he was noticed in his first three years in the Senate. He was elected in 1952 and he claimed that the Communists were taking over the government.

McCarthy suspected a lot of people to be Communist. He claimed that he had the names of like 50 to 200 names of people he claimed to be Communist. He claimed that the Democratic Party was guilty of 20 years of treason for allowing Communism into the government. Republicans did little to stop McCarthy.

He made accusations against the U.S. army and his public support went way down. The Senate condemned him for improper conduct that tended to bring the Senate into dishonor. He would interrogate his witnesses so bad and he lost a lot of public support. Then three years later he died and he was an alcoholic and he was lonely.
