Today we are starting on Germany with presentations.

We had a little review before the presentations.

Possible Test Questions

What was Australia’s role in WWII? They were Allied Powers. They provided bases for U.S.

What role did Canada play in WWII? They trained troops from like Europe or whatever because it was safe there. They were Allied Powers.

China was invaded by Japan. China was an Allied Power. Japan raped and beat the Chinese. They were treated really badly. They won because they got money support from U.S. They had tons more people than Japan did.

France was an Allied Power. They were taken over by Germany for like a month. There were two French governments that ruled. Hitler allowed the Vichy government to stay in power while they were taken over. The Vichy government was an allie with Germany and Hitler. The French support the Free French Underground. This was the government that had to stop. Charles Dugal was the leader of this government.

Now we started with the presentation.

1. How did the Treaty of Versailles impact them?

-They put full blame on Germany. They said that they had to give back their land and they were broken up. They had to reduce their army and they could only have so many ships.


2. What type(s) of government did this country have in the interwar years(1919-1938)?

-They had a Nazi party when Hitler came to power. They had a Weimar Republic and it was a very weak government. It was run by Jews and Hitler did not like this government at all. He was able to take over the Weimar Republic and someone died and he came into power. You’re elected or if someone gets impeached then the next person would take over. He tried to overthrow the government and he was sent to jail. He was sentenced for 5 years, but only served 5 months. He became popular because he wrote a book when he was in jail and he was trashing the Jews.


3. How did their leader, that led them throughout WWII, come to power?

-Von Hinderburg died and Hitler was appointed chancellor. The people supported him the Nazi group and they blamed the Jews for everything and everyone started to hate the Jews.


4. How did this leader change their country (for the better and worse) prior to WWII?

Hitler did some positive things. He rebuilt the military. He did this because he wanted them to be able to defend themselves. He brought the economy back. He used to be a very good leader. Everyone loved him; he was like a god to them. The Jews didn’t like him. He started discriminating against the Jews. The Jews had dark hair and dark eyed. That is why he didn’t like them.


5. What were the goals of the leader?

-He wanted to eliminate the Jews and get back the land they lost. He was creating blonde hair, blue eyed babies. He would have blonde haired, blue eyed men and women and he made them have babies. He believed that the Arian race was the best race in the world. He wanted to kill everyone who didn’t have blonde hair and blue eyes. He was very fascinated with twins as well.


6. What was the military strategy of this country in the inter-war years(1919-1938)?

-They improved new weapons. They would fight in quick separate battles, Blitzkrieg. They hit with airplanes and tanks all at once and they will surrender because they would be scared. They did not want to fight by Trench Warfare.


7. What role did they play in WWII?

-Without Germany there wouldn’t have been a war in Europe. They were overrunning countries right and left. They were the aggressor. The Blitzkrieg strategy was unstoppable.


8. Who were their allies in WWII?

- They were Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. They were the Axis Powers.


9. How did WWII impact/effect the country?

-Germany was divided into four zones. The Nazi party fell. Hitler escaped execution and trial because he committed suicide. The four zones they became East and West Germany.
