Today in CWI, we started our discussions. We began by talking about Iran's leader, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I learned more about him. We began talking about 9/11 and what actually happened on that very day in 2001. The first plane hit the north tower. The second plane hit the south tower of the World Trade Center. The third one hit the Pentagon, but didn't do much damage, and the fourth one failed and landed in a field in Pennsylvania. I learned that Flight 93, the fourth one, was palnning on hitting the White House or the Capitol Building. That would be so terrible! I learned how much courage and bravery the passengers on Flight 93 had to of been. They found out that three other planes crashed into buildings, and realized that it was not a typical hijacking plan. It was a suicide hijack. They then worked together to save the buildings and took on the hijackers in a fight. They are true heroes, even though they weren't able to make it.The towers fell completely in a time of two hours. Mr. Bruns told us about how he remembered watching them on TV like it was yesterday. We listened to part of President Bush's Ground Zero speech. I learned that after this attack, was the beginning of the war and how the rest of the world would "hear us," meaning we would strike back at them. We began discussing the Taliban, but didn't get very far. I learned that is like a religious group. We will finish that discussion tomorrow. I also learned that we helped Afghanistan's pwer in the 1980's during one of the wars. Next week, Obama will talk about sending more troops to Afghanistan. We will finish our discussion tomorrow.
