Today in class I learned that that immigrants wanted to retain their ethnic backgrounds so they went off and formed their own colonies. Catholics sought a special education for their children. In the early twenties the amount of people in school went up. The changes in the economy made people have to have a high school education. Therefore people would want to go to college because they wanted America to be on top. Colleges were kicked off because of Vietnam. At the end of the Civil war many African Americans started to want to go to school. Many of them would have to walk miles to get to school. Sometimes they didn't even had school because they didn't have enough educators. Booker T. Washington was the first African American doctor. He taught people that blacks could do more than work on the field and stuff that they had been used to doing. William Torrey Harrison was really big in education. He wanted to work with children so they wouldn't be brain washed.I think that high school education was very important for people back then. If people didn't start educating people back then then it really makes me think what we would be learning about in school today.
