Today, we listened to a presentation over endangered animals and that kind of stuff. Some animals that are endangered are the white rhino, leopard, gazelle, giant panda, and so on. Some species that are already extinct are the mason wasp, norfolk damselfly, all that. More than half of the world's species will be extinct in the next 100 years. Bruns talked about how fish are going to start being extinct because of over-fishing. And that was basically all of the presentation. The next presentation was on deforestation. Deforestation is removing trees or clearing a forest. Big trees, though. It affects the ecosystem and keeps topsoil in place. So when it rains, you get mudslides and loss of nutrients in the soil, and all that. Lots of animals would be lost without trees and trees make oxygen and take in CO2. Loss of trees can change the climate, as trees bring rain and all that. Farmers cut down trees for their farms, but then the soil goes downhill and they move somewhere else and do the same thing.
