Today in class I presented my Teddy Roosevelt blog. Other people also presented too. From this I learned that the Treaty of Portsmouth gave Japan the control of some of the land from Russia. This land also had a lot of natural resources. The treaty also ended the war.The Panama Canal is a ship canal by Panama. We wanted this because it would shorten the distance it took to transport goods by half the time. Around the late 1800's the United States tried to build it. We bought it form the French because they couldn't build it and people kept dying and they were losing a lot of money. When the United States tried to build it a lot of diseases began to occur. They then reduced swamps because one of the diseases were caused by mosquitoes. Many people that worked on it were Caribbean people and many died from accidents or diseases. The Monroe doctrine was when we said to Europe that if they didn't stay out of the western hemisphere then that would cause some trouble and we would view that as an attack from us.I think that it was a huge thing when Japan got control of some of the land from Russia. Russia is like five times the size of Japan! I also think that the Panama Canal was a really good idea that they had back then. It saved a lot of time and money.
